Overview
Discount codes allow you to offer promotional pricing to guests who book directly. Use them for marketing campaigns, returning guest rewards, corporate accounts, or special promotions.
Types of Discount Codes
Percentage Discount
Reduces the total by a percentage (e.g., 10% off). Best for:
- General promotions
- Returning guest rewards
- Partner referrals
Fixed Amount Discount
Reduces the total by a specific dollar amount (e.g., $50 off). Best for:
- Gift certificates
- Compensation credits
- First-time booking incentives
Free Night
Offers a free night when minimum stay requirements are met. Best for:
- "Stay 7, Pay 6" promotions
- Extended stay incentives
- Off-season campaigns
Waived Fee
Removes specific fees like cleaning or pet fees. Best for:
- Loyalty rewards
- Corporate bookings
- Last-minute deals
Creating a Discount Code
Navigate to Discount Codes
Go to Marketing > Pricing > Discount Codes tab.
Create New Code
Click "Add Discount Code" to open the creation form.
Enter Code Details
- Code - The text guests enter (e.g., SUMMER20)
- Name - Internal description
- Discount Type - Percentage, fixed, or free night
- Discount Value - Amount or percentage
Set Restrictions
- Valid Dates - When the code can be used
- Booking Window - Travel dates the code applies to
- Minimum Stay - Required nights for eligibility
- Properties - Which properties accept the code
- Usage Limit - Total times the code can be used
Activate Code
Enable the code to make it available for use.
Managing Discount Codes
Tracking Usage
View how many times each code has been used and the total discount value given.
Deactivating Codes
Disable codes that are no longer valid without deleting them (preserves history).
Editing Codes
Update expiration dates, restrictions, or discount values on existing codes.
Code Reports
Generate reports showing code performance, revenue impact, and guest usage patterns.
Best Practices
Code Naming
- Use memorable, easy-to-type codes
- Include the promotion type (SUMMER20, WELCOME50)
- Avoid confusing characters (0/O, 1/l)
Tracking Campaigns
- Create unique codes for each marketing channel
- Use codes to track referral sources
- Monitor conversion rates by code
